My most extravagant purchase: Apart from my children who I’ve still not paid for yet, my 1978 Kawasaki 400cc Motorbike. It’s just for me and takes me back to the days of my youth.
Barry Cowley (FCA, CTA)

I started the Practice: Back in 1992 with Mike Holmes, initially operating from his home.
What I do: Support everyone in the Practice with the benefit of my technical knowledge and commercial experience, develop the Practice with new operational and marketing initiatives, and meet with and advise clients to help save tax and develop their businesses.
Interests: I enjoy reading, walking and travel to Scotland, France and Italy when time and budget allow (not all that often with four children to cater for!)

Kim MacAskill (BA)
I joined the team: Way back in 1997!
What I do: I look after a portfolio of 100 or so clients, managing their accounts, tax VAT and payroll needs. I try and steer them as smoothly as possible through the vagaries of our tax system but when problems arise, I particularly enjoy tackling HMRC to achieve a fair result for my clients.
Interests: I enjoy getting together with family and friends, gardening, health and wellbeing. I also go walking with friends around the countryside; have played tennis, successfully rowed Bedford’s beautiful Great Ouse and especially love skiing in Austria and Italy. I am a Bedford Blues season ticket holder and attend some of the away games too. I have enjoyed many UK city breaks.
Favourite place: New York. It simply took my breath away. I had a WOW! moment every day there.

Pauline Bird (FCCA)
I joined the team: October 2000.
What I do: Managing a portfolio of over 100 clients in the practice ranging from property investors through to sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. Liaising with our accounts and tax assistants during the preparation of accounts, tax returns, VAT Returns and payroll and review the results for tax planning opportunities for the client.
Interests: shopping, socialising, music, family and my yellow Lab, Bella.

Most extravagant purchase? My Jacuzzi!
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you take with you? Just one, my husband as he thinks he’s Ray Mears.
Kim White (FMAAT, ATT)
I joined the team: December 2008.
What I do: I manage a portfolio of clients ranging from sole traders to limited companies, including new business start-ups and incorporations. I ensure their accounts and tax needs are dealt with efficiently and effectively at all times. I also support my colleagues with preparing accounts, tax returns and computations, VAT returns, bookkeeping etc.
Interests: Gaming and baking.
If I take a look in your fridge what would I find: Lots of Pepsi!
If you were a biscuit what would you be? A Jammy Dodger.
John Nagle (ACCA)
Senior Qualified Accountant and Tax Assistant
I joined the team: October 2010.
What I do: Take original client records and use to process into year-end accounts and VAT returns, payroll, bookkeeping and software training. Helping clients with management accounts.
Interests: When I am not studying for exams, I busy myself with instructing young people in the Army Cadets and inspiring them to achieve their goals and pass their cadet qualifications. I like to keep active by going to the gym to train strength and conditioning, while occasionally participating in Bedford Park runs and various obstacle course endurance events. I enjoy the company of friends and family whatever the occasion!
My top three movies: The Shawshank Redemption, Batman-The Dark Knight, The Italian Job (1969 version).
What is the one thing you couldn't live without?: My car - I always enjoy driving, travelling and am a keen supercar/hypercar enthusiast.
Armando Ventola (MAAT)
Accounts and Taxation Assistant
I joined the team: October 2017.
What I do: Prepare year-end accounts and related tax returns for sole traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies for client manager review. I also take client records and carry out bookkeeping and VAT activities on a quarterly basis. Process payroll information and produce reports that are filed with HMRC.
Interests: I enjoy horse racing, meeting up with friends and feeding people! (I just love to cook).
Most extravagant purchase & why: A trip to Hawaii to celebrate a big birthday and 25 years married – because we’re worth it!
Where do you see yourself in Ten years time? Doing what I am doing now, enjoying life, sharing it with friends, family and travelling the world.
I joined the team: April 2007.
What I do: Welcome visitors to Cowley Holmes, answer the phone, book keeping for clients, credit control and anything else that doesn’t have a home!
Interests: I live for the summer - I love the sunshine, beaches, and the countryside. I love animals, enjoy horse riding on occasions and looking after my pet hens in the garden which keeps me busy daily! I love spending time with my husband, family and friends, theatre, dining out, and I also enjoy cooking and spending time happily pottering about at home.

If I take a look in your fridge what would I find: My homemade pasta sauce (it’s the best!) & a few bottles of Pinot Grigio!
Office Manager & Receptionist
I joined the team: November 2008.
What I do: I’m one of the first points of contact here at Cowley Holmes, over the phone and in the office. You’ll find me at the Reception desk up on the first floor. I deal with all the day to day office tasks and enjoy assisting and looking after our clients and the team. I support the team with any administration tasks, and help Barry with implementing marketing ideas and activities.
Interests: I enjoy spending time with family and my twin granddaughters who keep me very busy. I also like to go out for meals with friends and enjoy weekends away. My hobbies are reading, sewing and gardening. I love just pottering around the garden, even though I'm terrified of worms!
Your most extravagant purchase and why?: I went away with my husband to America for a month on a road trip, which we loved, it was something we wanted to do for a while and finally had a chance to do it.
I joined the team: August 2017.
What I do: I answer the telephone and greet clients when they attend appointments. I do the typing for Barry and help with the day to day administration duties and running of the office as well as any ad hoc jobs that may crop up.
